Come and discover a new international campaign for the Profoto brand carried out at the first Masterclass Profoto Academy in France.

RC. Can you present the project?

The project was created in the Rouchon Paris studio with the partners Fujifilm (photographic equipment), Prodibi (Full Resolution Image Solution) et Set-a-Light (Light Simulation Software).

RC. How did you set up this project?

My idea was to suggest to Profoto to carry out a new campaign in front of observers, a masterclass in real conditions, a voluntary pressure in front of thirty or so participants and the final images would actually be those delivered to the client. So no cheating, no secrets.

And this pressure is positive, constructive, pushing to surpassing oneself and it urges me to constantly develop my work.
From that moment on, it was no longer a masterclass but rather a participation in the creation of a real campaign, and I was won over by this experience.

RC. How are you getting ready ?

I need a lot of preparation, this takes me the liberty of going in depth into all the details.

I create a concept composed of simple geometric shapes and masses of colors, allowing me to search for color composition and harmony.

Then, a computer simulation light study, often to experiment with feasible distances and lights that I don't have and I'll need to rent for the project. Finally, many light tests to do.

All this allows me to produce a precise and detailed pre-production, which I can present to the entire team, as well as to the studio.

RC. What is your post-production method ?

I divide post-production into three layers. A layer of masses of colours, a layer of long variations and a layer of short variations. And each of these layers is balanced in importance to the image, 70%, 20% and 10% (in this order).

A color is composed of 3 values: hue, saturation and brightness. The masses of colors thus represent the average value of hue, saturation and brightness (harmony of colors). Long variations are variations of hue, saturation and brightness over long distances (volumes). Short variations are variations of hue, saturation and brightness over short distances (textures).

RC. Which technical tip did you use?

The Color Editor tool in Capture One Pro is one of the best tools available in the world of photography and image manipulation.

Try to select the yellow or red warm shades and all the image saturations, and to reduce their luminosities to a few points...
